My favorite reads of 2017

I haven’t been reading or reviewing as much as in previous years because:

1) haven’t had the time

2) personal troubles IRL

3) health issues–arthritis, depression, and anxiety (my continuing disability–bipolar I disorder)

4) World of Warcraft

5) Writing. I’d rather be writing my own stories than reading and reviewing. In the process, I’ve realized that the stories I need to write aren’t necessarily the stories I want to read, because all the angst. I don’t think I can write anything but angst. Also, my grammar sucks.

6) 2017

I read less than 80 books this year; I read twice as many last year. I posted less than a dozen reviews on my blog. I have requested far less ARCs from NetGalley than in previous years, but I continue to host blog tours for Riptide Publishing, Avon Books, and others.

Mostly, I have been reading historical romance and teen/ya fantasy novels. So, here is my list of favorite reads and audiobooks of 2017. I pretty much agree with the industry reviews of these titles, and feel that they deserve the 4 or 5 stars they have received on Goodreads. I especially loved the audiobook versions of the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas, perfectly narrated by Elizabeth Evans, and the Turner Series by Cat Sebastian, perfectly narrated by Gary Furlong. (I plan to download The Lawrence Brown Affair audiobook next.)

1) Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas

2) Duke of Desire by Elizabeth Hoyt

3) The Day of the Duchess by Sarah MacLean

4) The Ruin of a Rake by Cat Sebastian

5) The Soldier’s Scoundrel by Cat Sebastian

6) Hate to Want You by Alisha Rai

7) Heir of Fire, Queen of Midnight, and Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass, Books 3-5) by Sarah J. Maas

8) King’s Cage (Red Queen, Book 3) by Victoria Aveyard

9) An Ember In The Ashes (An Ember In the Ashes, Book 1) by Sabaa Tahir

10) Shadow and Bone (Grisha, Book 1) by Leigh Bardugo
